Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.
– Brian Tracy
Let’s talk about getting comfortable feeling uncomfortable today. I recently wrote a blog post all about stepping outside your comfort zone which you can read HERE. This blog post is a little bit of an extension of that blog post.
Here’s the thing. You need to step outside of your comfort zone if you want to live the life of your dreams. You dreams will not come true in your comfort zone. Whether it’s in your personal life or regarding your business and/or work. You need to get out of your comfort zone in order to create and live your dream life.
But that also means you have to get comfortable feeling uncomfortable. Because guess what? Stepping outside your comfort zone will feel uncomfortable, and it probably will also feel messy. You might feel like you are stumbling around, like Bambi on ice, not really sure what you are doing. My coach, Paige Schmidt, refers to this as the messy middle. I love this metaphor, and I remind myself of it all the time.
For instance, right now I’m creating a coaching program (stay tuned!), I’m in the process of starting a newsletter, I have committed to writing two books, I’m in the process of creating yoga courses, and oh, I also would like to start a podcast. That’s on top of all the other work I do. I will be the first one to tell you that it is messy.
Half the time I’m not even sure what I’m doing, and I just trust that I will figure it all out along the way. Because I always do. I have faith. So much faith. But it is still uncomfortable, and it is messy. I have to get comfortable feeling uncomfortable. I absolutely feel uncomfortable filming yoga videos and taking photos. I am not naturally comfortable in front of a camera. Luckily, I have excellent help, but still, it’s way outside my comfort zone.
Get comfortable feeling uncomfortable
There are so many areas in my life right now where I just have to get comfortable feeling uncomfortable. Let me give you an example that’s not about my business.
I have recently met this incredible man whom I love so much. However, I come with a very painful dating history, which means that I could easily have chosen to just stay in my comfort zone and decide not to start a new relationship in order to not get hurt again. However, that’s not my dream life.
So, instead I am dealing with my feelings and working through them because I really want to be with this man. Naturally, as we spend more time together, all that old pain melts away, but in the beginning starting a new relationship felt scary and outside my comfort zone. But I still did it. Because I know this is a part of my dream life.
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone
The thing is life happens outside your comfort zone. This is where your dreams happen. This is where you grow and evolve. Nothing grows in your comfort zone. Sure, it can be nice to stay there for a little bit, but if you want to grow as a person and grow your business (or grow in your professional career) you absolutely have to step outside your comfort zone. There is no two way about it.
The hardest thing to do is leaving your comfort zone. But you have to let go of the life you’re familiar with and take the risk to live the life of you dream about.

This also means that you have to get comfortable feeling uncomfortable because it will be uncomfortable once you step outside your comfort zone. You have to take a deep breath and lean into the discomfort. Don’t run away when things get uncomfortable. Lean into it. I know it can feel scary, but you just have to lean into the discomfort. Breathe into it. Have faith.
I hope this post has been helpful and inspiring.
