Lately, I’ve been reflecting about joyful living, and I’ve been asking myself if I’m truly living my life in the way that brings me the most joy. The answer is no. Please note, that this doesn’t mean I don’t like my life or that I’m not happy. It just means it is time to take a good look at my life and if my values and beliefs are aligning with how I’m living my life. If how I’m living my life is bringing me an abundance of joy or if I’m missing something.
Very recently I’ve been making some changes and decisions so I can bring more joy into my life, and I can do more of the things that set my soul on fire. This hasn’t necessarily been easy, but at the end of the day I have to follow my heart, listen to my intuition and live a life that lights me up. Even if that means disappointing others. I’ve been telling reminding myself of the words from Oriah Mountain Dreamer’s poem The Invitation:
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
Sometimes in life we end up disappointing other people, even people we care deeply about who we do not wish to disappoint. But we have to stay true to ourselves. Sometimes this also means walking away from things because they no longer serve your highest self.
I wholeheartedly believe that we have to follow our heart, stay true to ourselves, and not betray our soul. I believe this will make a happy life. A life that sets your soul on fire. A life that lights you up.
For me personally this means I’ve made some changes and decisions about how I’m living my life, and I am making a real effort to do more of the lights that bring me joy. I am all about joyful living. Of course, I know that not every minute of every day is going to be full of joy, but overall I want my life to be filled with joy.
I’ve made a beautiful list with things that bring me joy that I can look at every day so I consciously can include them into my everyday life.
A few of the things on my Joyful Living list:
- Morning coffee with creamy oat milk
- Yoga (especially yin yoga, funky flows, kundalini)
- The ocean
- Spending time with my friends and family
- Connecting with my spirituality
- Colorful boho style clothes & lots of jewelry
- An abundance of fresh fruit and veggies
- Smoothies in my coconut bowls
- Working on my business
I could continue the list but I think you get the idea. It doesn’t have to be these big things. It can also be small things. For instance I’ve started journaling every morning while I slowly sip my coffee. Pure bliss! I’ve also started walking down to the beach several times every week. I’ve made travel plans. I’ve started making smoothies in my huge coconut bowls that my sister and her boyfriend got me from Bali. It’s all about the little things.
So take a moment to reflect on joyful living and what it means to you. Are you living a life with an abundance of joy or can you add more of the things that bring you joy into your life? I personally love – and find it very helpful – to journal, meditate and go down to the beach when I need to reflect and tune into myself, but you do you.
Love & Light,
