Things I’m loving lately, life updates & a word on enjoying movement

26. October 2022

This post will be a little different than my usual posts. It will be more of a reflection post where I’m sharing different things I’m loving lately, sharing some life updates and some general reflections I’ve had about movement lately. As you probably know by now I moved to New Zealand about six weeks ago. I honestly cannot believe it has already been six weeks here. Time has just flown right by.

I have shared this before both on the blog, in my newsletter and on Instagram, but the first two weeks here were hard. Yes, I instantly loved New Zealand, but it was also really hard assimilating to a new country. However, I now feel at home and settled. I can really honestly say that I feel at home here. I more or less know my way around, I’ve started to drive here (okay, it’s still not great, but I’m getting there), I found a lovely yoga studio, I feel at home in house, I know more people and generally I just love living here. I think the lesson I’ve learned here is that sometimes even the right decision can be really hard at first, but that doesn’t mean it’s the wrong decision. Not at all. Beginnings are usually always hard. Remember when you started taking driving lessons? If you were anything like me it felt hard, but gradually it became easier and easier. It’s the same thing when you start a new job. It will feel hard at first, but slowly you get the hang of it. Beginnings usually are hard – even if they are exciting as well.

But truly, I love it here now. My soul feels so at home here. If you ever have the chance to visit this beautiful country I would highly encourage you to go. It is such a stunningly beautiful country and people here are just lovely.

Something else I’ve really been enjoying since moving here is movement. Well, I’ve actually always loved movement, but while traveling in Asia it was challenging doing much else than yoga, and I really missed running, hiking, walking, pilates, barre… Since moving here I’ve practiced less yoga (I still practice yoga, just less), and instead I’ve been running, walking and hiking much more. I’ve been going to barre and pilates classes. It feels so good. Honestly, movement should feel joyful and I believe we are meant to enjoy movement. It shouldn’t feel like a punishment or something that you just have to get over with. I truly believe movement should be a source of enjoyment.

Now, let’s talk about a few things I’ve been loving lately. These are kind of random things, but I still wanted to share them with you in case they bring you a bit of inspiration.

Saunas

We have a sauna in our garden, and I cannot tell you how much I love it. I’ve never really been into saunas, but I have more or less been sitting in our sauna for 15 minutes every day for the last month and it feels amazing. My skin is clearer, I’m less cold, I love sweating, it gives me energy, my mood has improved and overall I just feel much better. Such a game changer!

Morning walks

I’ve shared it many times before but I’m big on getting my movement first thing in the morning. My boyfriend and I have this ritual of going for a walk every morning, and it honestly is one of my favorite parts of my day. It makes me happy, and we always have such good conversations on these morning walks. They are the perfect way to start the day.

Reading

I didn’t read much while overseas given that I couldn’t bring my books, but now that we’re in New Zealand I’m back into reading and I LOVE it. Seriously, I forgot just how much I love reading. It brings me so much joy. I recently just read Rich Dad Poor Dad, Man’s Search for Meaning and Rebel. All three amazing books that I can highly recommend. I’ll do a blog post soon dedicated to some of the books I’ve read and loved lately.

Cinnamon raisin bagels

A completely random one, I know. But lately I’ve been eating a cinnamon raisin bagel with peanut butter almost every morning, and I gotta say I’m loving it.

Podcasts

I’ve been listening to so many podcasts lately. Especially when I’m sitting in the sauna, doing laundry, getting ready for the day, cooking or if I’m going for a walk by myself. I’ve always loved the really long podcasts (still do), but lately I’ve also been into shorter episodes that I can easily listen to while in the sauna, eating my lunch or putting on makeup.

Writing

Okay, I’ve always loved writing, but lately it feels like my love for writing has grown even more and more. Whether it’s blog posts, articles, text for web, books or journaling. I seem to just have an endless abundance of creativity and inspiration flowing through me at the moment, and I’m making the most of it.

Okay, my loves, that is all I have for today.
